Attendance Policy

Success in school is dependent on good attendance. Frequent absence from class disrupts the instructional process for all students and staff. In keeping with the District policy the philosophy of Bountiful High School is to encourage student responsibility of regular attendance. We attempt to assist parents with their legal responsibility to have their children in school.

Absence must be cleared within three days of the absence. Parents can clear absence on line for three days through my.dsd.  After that, you need to call the attendance office.

FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS, EACH STUDENT MUST CHECK IN AND OUT OF THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE.

CHECK-IN: Students arriving up to twenty minutes late to school 1st or 5th period do not need to check in at the office. They should go directly to their 1st or 5th period class to check in with the teacher.

CHECK-OUT: Students will be allowed to check out of school for medical appointments, illnesses, funerals, court appearances, etc. These must be verified by a parent or legal

guardian. STUDENTS FAILING TO CHECK OUT THROUGH THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE AND MISSING CLASS (ES) WILL BE CONSIDERED TRUANT FOR THOSE CLASSES MISSED. TEACHERS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE MAKE-UP WORK FOR UNCLEARED ABSENCES.

All absences need to be cleared within a three-day period.  If not, the student will be considered truant. This is the responsibility of the student and the parent. The attendance office does not allow absences to be cleared by telephone.  You must clear all absences in person, with a signed note or by email,  bhsattendance@dsdmail.net  or on line at my.dsd.

TARDINESS/TRUANCIES

In an effort to curb tardiness, decrease campus vandalism, and make our campus a safe place, a school-wide intervention plan has been instituted.

Campus “sweeps” will be made on a CONSISTENT basis throughout the school year. Any students found in the hall after the tardy bell rings are expected to have a school approved hall pass, , a call down slip from the office, or a check-in/check-out slip. It is the responsibility of both the student and the faculty member to see that students not in class during the class time have the appropriate hall pass. Students in the hall without the proper clearance will receive the following interventions.

1st intervention            Warning (written or verbal)

2nd Intervention           Truancy Citation ($10.00 fine) - copy mailed home

3rd intervention            Truancy Citation  ($15.00 fine) – Parent contacted immediately
