Attendance Information

Attendance Policy

Success in school is dependent on good attendance.  Frequent absences from class disrupts the instructional process for all students and staff.   In keeping with the Davis School District policy, the philosophy of Bountiful High School is to encourage student responsibility of regular attendance.   We attempt to assist parents with their legal responsibility to have their children in school.

Absences must be cleared within 3 days of the date the student returns to school.   Parents may clear absences online through myDSD when signed in as the guardian.

Absences may also be cleared by emailing bhsattendance@dsdmail.net  giving the student’s full name, dates to be cleared and reason for the absence.   Also, you may send a note with your student (when they return to school) to be turned in to the Attendance Office.   The note needs to state the student’s full name, dates to be cleared and reason for the absence with the parents’ signature on the bottom of the note.

FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS, EACH STUDENT MUST CHECK IN AND OUT BY GOING TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE TO DO SO.

CHECK-IN:   Students arriving late to school need to go to the Attendance Office and check in on the iPad by logging in and selecting the class that is in session during the time of checking in.

CHECK-OUT:   Students will be allowed to check out for medical appointments, illnesses, funerals, court appearances, etc.    Students may be checked out only by their parent or legal guardian.

STUDENTS FAILING TO CHECK OUT THROUGH THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE AND MISSING CLASS(ES) WILL BE CONSIDERED TRUANT.  ABSENCES NOT CLEARED BY THE PARENT IN THE 3 DAY TIME FRAME WILL BE CONSIDERED AS TRUANT.  TEACHERS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE MAKEUP WORK FOR DAYS THAT SHOW AS UNCLEARED ABSENCES.

TARDINESS/TRUANCIES

In an effort to curb tardiness, decrease campus vandalism, and make our campus a safe place, a school-wide intervention plan has been instituted.

Campus “sweeps” will be made on a CONSISTENT basis throughout the school year. Any students found in the hall after the tardy bell rings are expected to have a school approved hall pass, a call down slip from the office, or a check-in/check-out slip. It is the responsibility of both the student and the faculty member to see that students, not in class during the class time, have the appropriate hall pass. Students in the hall without the proper clearance will receive the following interventions:

1st Intervention            Warning (written or verbal)

2nd Intervention           Truancy Citation ($10.00 fine) - Copy mailed home

3rd Intervention            Truancy Citation ($15.00 fine) – Parent contacted immediately
